WHAT IS
A POWERBALL?
Introduction
The Original Powerball
is the ideal training device for sports like tennis, golf, basket-ball,
table tennis, badminton, bowling, rowing, rock-climbing etc.
Powerball training improves your performance in these sports
considerably and is great fun at the same time. You exercise muscles in
your arms, your wrists, the grip of your fingers and your coordination.
Moreover, Powerball helps to prevent tennis elbow, Carpal Tunnel
Syndrome and Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI Syndrome). It can ease pain
in muscles and shoulders after working long hours on the computer.
The principle of the
Original Powerball is the gyroscope.
A gyroscope is a solid object that is designed to spin around a central
axis. The ends of the axle rest on bearings in a steel ring, or gimbal.
Start the top spinning and as long as it continues to spin rapidly, the
top will remain balanced on its pointed end.
|
 |
- Actually you can
compare a Powerball in motion to a glass of
whisky-on-the-rocks.
- You hold it from the
top and make the ice-cubes move in a circle.
|
More important, the direction of the top's spin axis will resist any
attempt to change the direction of the axis about which the rotor turns.
This basic property results from the top's strong Angular Momentum. The
rigidity in space of a gyroscope is a consequence of Newton's first law
of motion which states that a body at rest tends to continue in its
state of rest or uniform motion unless subject to outside forces. Thus,
the wheel of a gyroscope, when started spinning, tends to continue to
rotate in the same plane about the same axis in space...
Precession - When a force (your hand) is applied to a gyroscope it tends
to change the direction of the axis of rotation, the axis will move in a
direction at right angles to the direction in which the force is
applied.
Inside the Powerball there is a rotor of about 200 gram which is being
accelerated by a round movement of the hand. The rotor can perform as
many as 16.000 rpm (revolutions per minute) and thus generate a force of
about 80 times the weight of the rotor, as much as 16 kilograms!!
Quality features of the Original Powerball.
 |
-
[1] The
rotation is balanced by computer and thus is absolutely
precise
-
[2] The
axle is made of steel and cannot break
-
[3] The
models with generator (PB 188 Lightning and PB-188 Max)
feature a fascinating light-effect. 6 Power LEDīs. No
batteries necessary.
-
[4]
With the grip band around the Powerball you hold it
firmly in your hand and it does not slip away
-
[5] The
housing is made of durable plastic
-
[6] The
rotor can make as much as 14,000 rpm (revolutions per
minute) and generates a force of up to 16 kg.
-
[7] The
original Powerball is available with digital counter or
the counter can be fixed onto the Powerball later on.

How to start the
Powerball
 |
With the starter
string:
- Put the point of the
string into the little hole in the rotor and wind it up.
- To start now you hold
the Powerball firmly in one hand and pull the string
with power.
- Now you start moving
your hand in a circle and try to build up the speed of
the rotor.
To start with your hand:
- Hold the Powerball in
one hand and accelerate the rotor with the thumb or palm
of your other hand.
- The initial speed of
the rotor has to be just right and you can just go on
with a round movement of your wrist.
- Now you start moving
your hand in a circle and try to build up the speed of
the rotor.
